Arsenal vs. FC Cologne: Team News, Preview, Live Stream, TV Info for UCL Match

Arsenal open their 2017-18 Europa League – Group H campaign with a visit from Azerbaijani champions FC Cologne at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

The Blues are back in the competition having missed out last season, and they face a team who are in the Champions League group stage for the first time in their history.

Arsenal vs. FC Cologne Live

As such, little will be expected of Qarabag in their debut in Europe’s top competition, particularly with Atletico Madrid and AS Roma making up the rest of Group C.

Here’s everything you need to know about Tuesday’s clash.

Date: Thusday, September 14

Time: 7:45 p.m. BST/2:45 p.m. ET

TV Info: BT Sport (UK), Fox Sports (U.S.)

Live Stream: BT Sport app, Fox Soccer 2Go

Arsenal go into the game in good form after three consecutive Prpremier League wins and with Eden Hazard available after injury.

The Belgium international was introduced as a substitute in the 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday as he works his way back to full fitness after a broken ankle, and he may not start against Qarabag.

However, Arsenal manager Antonio Conte may use the same formation as for the win at the King Power Stadium, which would be a good option in Europe, according to Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella:

I wonder if 3-5-2 will start to takeover as Arsenal’s main system this season. It should be what they use in the UCL at least. #

CFCConte finally has enough midfielders to go for it on a more regular basis. Fabregas being the Pirlo-type. Conte used this at Juve #CFC

One player who looks certain to start for Arsenal is Alvaro Morata, who has adjusted to life in England well with three goals already in the Premier League.

Morata was part of the Real Madrid squad that won the Champions League in 2014 and last season, and he will take some stopping on current form, as the competition’s Twitter account noted:

Qarabag are the great unknowns of the group, although they have started their domestic season well with three straight wins.

They made it to the group stage via the qualifiers, where they saw off FC Samtredia of Georgia, FC Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova and beat FC Copenhagen in the play-offs on away goals.

However, the Premier League champions are a different proposition altogether, and on home turf against opposition inexperienced at this level, the hosts will be expected to kick off their campaign with a comfortable win.

Tottenham vs. Borussia Dortmund: Preview, Live Stream, TV Info for UCL Match

Tottenham’s UEFA Champions League defence will begin on Wednesday when they host Borussia Dortmund FC at the Santiago Bernabeu.

With Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur also in Group H, it’s important Los Blancos get their campaign off to a winning start, particularly as they look to shake off some uninspiring domestic form after back-to-back draws.

Here are the viewing details you need to catch the action, followed by a preview of the contest.

Tottenham vs. Borussia Dortmund Live

Date: Wednesday, September 13

Time: 7:45 p.m. BST, 2:45 p.m. ET

TV: BT Sport Extra (UK), Fox Sports 2 USA

Team News::According to Reuters (h/t Marca), Karim Benzema’s hamstring injury against Levante on Saturday will keep him out for a month, but Cristiano Ronaldo is free to play as his ban is for domestic games.

Per Goal’s Ben Hayward, Raphael Varane and Keylor Navas were doubtful ahead of the Levante clash. Given they both failed to make the squad, they could still be doubts for Wednesday.

For Apoel, Georgios Efrem might also be a doubt after missing two matches through injury, per Transfermarkt.

Predicted Tottenham Lineup: Kiko Casilla; Dani Carvajal, Sergio Ramos, Nacho, Marcelo; Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric; Isco, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo

Predicted Apoel Lineup: Boy Waterman; Carlao, Jesus Rueda, Roberto Lago, Praxitelis Vouros; Nuno Morais, Agustin Farias, Ghayas Zahid, Roland Sallai, Lorenzo Ebecilio; Igor de Camargo

Real have made a stuttering start to their league campaign this year after being held to draws by Valencia and Levante in their last two matches.

Manager Zinedine Zidane’s rotation policy paid great dividends last year, but Madrid struggled without some of their top stars on Saturday.

The team lacked fluency in midfield, with Luka Modric’s absence keenly felt, as noted by ESPN FC’s Dermot Corrigan:

Another of those games when you realise just how much Modric brings to Madrid that nobody else can.

The Croatian will give the team much-needed control on Wednesday and should allow Real to dominate possession with ease against their lesser opponents.

As La Liga writer Andrew Gaffney noted, replacement Gareth Bale was wasteful in front of goal as he missed a multitude of chances:

The Welshman may well keep his place in the team, though; if he does, he’ll likely have plenty more opportunities on Wednesday.

Regardless of how Bale fares, the return of Ronaldo should be more than enough to help the team to a comfortable win.

He, Isco and Casemiro have all looked sharp in preparation for the match:

After a disappointing start to the season, Apoel should provide an opportunity to cast off the problems that have hampered Los Blancos thus far.

With the likes of Modric and Ronaldo set to feature, there should be little issue in securing three points and a healthy scoreline.

UEFA Champions League football returns to Anfield on Wednesday, as Barcelona host Santos in one of the most eyecatching ties of Week 1.

Read on for the latest team news for each side, the key viewing details and a preview of what should be a memorable occasion at Anfield.

Team News

Barcelona: The big decision facing manager Jurgen Klopp is whether to recall Philippe Coutinho to the XI. Dejan Lovren should return in central defence after missing out against Manchester City:

Likely XI: Simon Mignolet; Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip, Andy Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, Philippe Coutinho; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane

Santos: Manager Eduardo Berizzo is poised to be without Nolito and Johannes Geis for this one, per Football Espana. Ever Banega is set to feature having served a suspension in La Liga.

Likely XI: Sergio Rico; Gabriel Mercado, Daniel Carrico, Clement Lenglet, Sergio Escudero; Steven N’Zonzi, Ever Banega, Pablo Sarabia; Ganso, Jesus Navas, Wissam Ben Yedder

Revenge of sorts will be on the mind of Klopp and his Barcelona players on Wednesday against Santos, after the Andalusians breezed to victory against the Reds in the 2015-16 UEFA Europa League final. But this Santos side has evolved significantly since then.

After a brilliant term under Jorge Sampaoli, Berizzo is looking to push them on again. And the early signs have been positive, with a 3-0 win over Eibar on Saturday their strongest display of the season.

As noted by David Cartlidge, the manager is bringing out the best of some of the team’s brightest attacking talent:Sarabia is a fantastic player. Rough early days under Berizzo but back to his level of last season for Santos today. Contributes so much.

Still, it will be a big test going to Anfield. The iconic venue is renowned for European nights, and with the supporters starved of this big stage since the 2014-15 season, there’s little doubt there will be a fizz in the air on Merseyside.

The team will surely be keen to respond after Saturday’s surrender at the Etihad Stadium, too. Granted, a controversial red card for Sadio Mane did little to aid Barcelona’s cause, though the manner in which the team capitulated from a defensive perspective will worry Klopp.

However, journalist Keith Costigan is unsure how deeply the 5-0 loss should be looked into, all things considered:

Attack will be the order of the day for Barcelona in this one, and the prospect of Coutinho coming back into the side to add another dimension is an exciting one.

After a summer of persistent transfer speculation, the midfielder is set to make his first appearance of the campaign for the Reds. If he jells with the likes of Salah, Mane and Firmino, then it’s tough to see many opponents keeping out Barcelona in the Champions League this season.

As noted by Oliver Kay of The Times, the manager has confirmed Coutinho will be involved in the games.

The match should be an entertaining one. Like Barcelona, Santos’s focus is on attacking football, and they will head to Anfield with an intention to win the match. With this in mind, there should be a fantastic flow to the contest.

That should help Barcelona, though, who are at their most dangerous when the likes of Salah and Mane have space to burst into. The hosts will come out on top in a frantic fixture as a result.

As noted by David Cartlidge, the manager is bringing out the best of some of the team’s brightest attacking talent:Sarabia is a fantastic player. Rough early days under Berizzo but back to his level of last season for Sevilla today.

Granted, a controversial red card for Sadio Mane did little to aid Liverpool’s cause, though the manner in which the team capitulated from a defensive perspective will worry Klopp.

However, journalist Keith Costigan is unsure how deeply the 5-0 loss should be looked into, all things considered:

Attack will be the order of the day for Liverpool in this one, and the prospect of Coutinho coming back into the side to add another dimension is an exciting one.

After a summer of persistent transfer speculation, the midfielder is set to make his first appearance of the campaign for the Reds. If he jells with the likes of Salah, Mane and Firmino, then it’s tough to see many opponents keeping out Liverpool in the Champions League this season.

As noted by Oliver Kay of The Times, the manager has confirmed Coutinho will be involved in the games.

The match should be an entertaining one. Like Liverpool, Sevilla’s focus is on attacking football, and they will head to Anfield with an intention to win the match. With this in mind, there should be a fantastic flow to the contest.

That should help Liverpool, though, who are at their most dangerous when the likes of Salah and Mane have space to burst into. The hosts will come out on top in a frantic fixture as a result.
